N.Z. voice in world hockey

A New Zealand representative has been elected to the council of the International Hockey Federation for the first time. / He is Mr Brian Bremner, of Wellington, who was voted on to the 37-jnember council for a four-year term at the federation’s congress in Brussels at the week-end. He defeated five other candidates for the single vacancy on the council. Mr Bremner, a vicepresident of the New Zealand Hockey Association and an international umpire, said in Paris yesterday: "Although New Zealand has taken part in international competition since 1956, this is the first
time we have joined in the administration of the sport. "It was a necessary move. , Having established our place in world hockey, it is right that New Zealand should ! have a voice in policy- ' making decisions.” i To mark the federation's fiftieth anniversary, Mr Bremner presented a “pou pou" Maori carving on behalf of : the New Zealand association. It will be permanently dis- * played at the federation’s * headquarters in Brussels. At the council meeting, the r draw for the World Cup > tournament in Kuala Lumpur ' next March was made. New .
