•A' Z.P..4 Reuter —Copyright) WEST BERLIN. Two East German spies who were serving long prison sentences in France have been exchanged for West Germans imprisoned for espionage in East Germany. West Berlin sources say! • that the two East Germans, :one of whom they identify; as Hans Bammler, were considered to be the last of a group of about 10 impris-( oned in France in the 50s ,and ’6os for spying. West Germany, acting in i conjunction with the French ' secret service, had passed on I the names of a dozen men I convicted as agents whose; release they wanted in return for the two East Germans, understood to be senior officers in the Ministry of State Security. But only a few returned when the exchange took place at the Wall between East and West Berlin about a month ago: the East Germans said that the remainder had decided not to return to France.
