(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Sept. 30. Values for gold coins rose dramatically at a Wellington auction conducted bv Dunbar Sloane, Ltd. Sovereigns, which sold about two years ago for $l4 to $lB, fetched between $45 and $9O. The top price offered was $1125 for a 1935 proof
set including a Waitangi crown. Another Waitangi (1935) without blemish sold for $720, and a set of gold and silver coins (1887) in superb condition made $lOOO. Eight centennial (1940) half-crowns sold for $5O, and seven Bahamas mules (2 cents) undated but minted in error, fetched $l3 each. Other quotations were:
New Zealand penny (1956 strapless), $10; Sydney mint sovereign, $7O; English George IV sovereign (1822), $96; Bahamas Islands, $lO and $2O, gold coins in special presentation case, $65; English sovereign (1865), $B5. A set of New Zealand coins up to 1965 but minus the Waitangi crown, fetched $77, eight farthings brought $4.50, and a Kingdom of Saxony silver taler, (1607), made $55.
