Watch on gangs sought
The Christchurch police have asked businessmen to watch for groups of people; who may become troublesome.
Several incidents of gang violence in the city last week-end had prompted the police to take action to prevent similar disturbances, a police spokesman said yesterday.
Four persons were injured last week-end in clashes between groups, including motor-cyclists. Fifteen persons were arrested in connection with the incidents on charges including assault and unlawful assembly — and more arrests are possible. Letters have been sent by the police to businessmen asking them to report congregations or assemblies which could become troublesome. The police want to know the movements of certain groups of people in order to prevent violence or to catch them in the act.
