Invitations to athletes

One of the key officials for the New Zealand Games track and field athletics, Mr B. H. Kerr, of Christchurch, will leave today for Europe where he will attend the European championships in Rome. At the championships. Mr Kerr intends to issue personal invitations for top athletes to compete in the New Zealand Games next January. He expects to be away about a week.

Mr Kerr, who was the chairman of the control committee for the Commonwealth Games, believes that a direct approach is needed if the New Zealand Games are to attract the leading Europeans. After his visit written invitations will be sent to the athletes contacted.

Part of Mr Kerr’s expenses is being met by the Games organising committee.
