’Copter sabotage ruled out
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 12. Sabotage or foul play as the cause of the recent helicopter crash into Lake Te Anau was ruled out today by the Minister of Civil Aviation (Dr Finlay). He was commenting after receiving a preliminary report on the crash from the Chief Inspector of Air Accidents (Mr E. F. Harvie). “This accident was not precipitated by any act of sabotage, foul play, damage from rifle fire or any other maliciously inspired act,” Dr Finlay said in a statement. "There are no suspicious circumstances.” He added that Mr Harvie believed his final report would be able to indicate clearly the cause of the accident.
Dr Finlay said he was making a statement because of the wide public interest and quite unfounded sensational allegations that had been made about the crash.
