Spanish anarchist movements
Sir,—The article in “The Press” on Spain (August 6), was obviously written with the intention of soothing the nerves of all capitalists and other reactionaries when it stated that anarchists in Spain are weak and disorganised. Obviously the writer has never heard of The Confederacion Nacional Trabajo. (C.N.T.), a large trade union movement with strong anarchist tradi-
'tions, or the Movimiento Iberico de Liberation or the Federacion Anarquista Iberica — movements that are powerful enough for 50 members of C.N.T. to stop the MadridBarcelona express in late January and distribute leaflets protesting against the death sentence on Salvador Puig Antich (who was eventually murdered by the State in Barcelona prison on March 2), and also paint anarchist slogans on the train. The F.A.I. and M.I.L. are powerful enough to warrant the formation of a special armed police squad to try to prevent them spreading their libertarian teachings which will eventually make Spain a decent place to live.—Yours etc., STEPHEN R. HAY. August 10, 1974.
