Y.W.C.A. planning holiday fun
I Children and teen- I agers in Christchurch 'will be able to choose from a wide range of 1 activities provided by : the Y.W.C.A. during the 1 I August school holidays. i As well as the usual activi- ■ [ties there will be a residential camp for girls aged 13 to , 15. . Miss Sheila Cameron, pro- ‘ grammes director for the, Y.W.C.A., said yesterday that , this would be held during the j third week of the holiday. The popular "stay-at-home ,
camps" for children aged six to 11 would also be held in Riccarton and Burwood. There are a wide range of things for the children to do in these groups, and some day trips have been arranged. Voluntary help kept the costs of these groups down. There would be 100 children in the central city group, and 65 in each of the suburban groups. Miss Cameron said there were usually more children wanting to take part than there were places for them. She said that these groups were valuable for working mothers who could not give up their jobs during the school holidays. Sometimes schools and the Department of Social Welfare recommended children. School certificate coaching in five subjects by paid tutors would also be available.
