N. Queensland side beaten
The Canterbury under 18 team had a 60-59 victory over the touring Northern Queensland under 20 representaUves in a women’s basketball match -in Cowles Stadium last evening. It was a splendid performance by the home side considering the tourists had beaten the senior Canterbury team by one point on the same court a fortnight earlier Canterbury lea 33-29 at halftime and slowly increased its control when play resumed. But its New Zealand junior representative, P. Hinkley, who was playing exceptionally well, collected her fifth foul and was forced to leave the game. Northern Queensland, as if Inspired by Hinkley’s departure, rallied strongly, and In short time had taken a narrow lead. The lead changed several times before Canterbury scored the winning goal a minute from full-time and hung on grimly. Hinkley was the top scorer for Canterbury with 19 points. K. Adams scored 15. B. Malcolm (13) and H. Walker (9) were the leading scorers for Northern Queensland. i
