'Pop' Bullen dead
(N.Z. Press Assn—Copyright) SYDNEY, Aug. 12. A “Mr Circus” of two generations, Mr Alfred ("Pop”) Bullen, died in Sydney yesterday, aged 78. With his first wife, Lillian, the former printer from the coastal town of Kiama,
about 73 miles south of Sydney, established one of the most successful and bestloved circuses in Australia and New Zealand.
He began his 50 years as a showman with pony rides along the Kiama beach. | When his circus closed! down five years ago, it had[ given thousands of perform-1 ances throughout Australia and New Zealand. Mrs Lillian Bullen, who died in 1965 at the age of 70, is remembered as one of the most colourful and forceful personalities in Australian show business.
After his circus closed, Mr Bullen and two of his sons, Stafford and Kenneth, established two lion parks and an animal park at Wallacia, on the edge of Sydney.
Mr Bullen leaves his second wife, Ruth, four sons, and a daughter.
