Noise still mystery
The police have not been able to discover the cause of the loud noise over Christchurch about 8 p.m. on Monday. The noise was heard by many residents, particularly in the eastern suburbs, and the pilots of two aircraft reported a flare descending from the upper atmosphere about the same time. The noise is thought to have resulted from a meteorite or piece of space debris lanaing near Christchurch, but there has been no reported discovery of such an object in the last two days.
