Remembered late
It was not until about half an hour into the annual meeting of the Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Save the Children Fund yesterday that the chairman (Mr N. G. Pickering) suddenly appeared to remember something important — and eager to tell someone.
He whispered to the president (Mrs J. L. Pearson), but the rest of the members, numbering about 100, were kept completely in the dark, except Mrs Alexia Pickering, who managed a polite smile for her husband.
An hour later, the story came out when Mrs Pearson thanked Mr Pickering for chairing the meeting. It was Mr and Mrs Pickering’s twentieth wedding anniversary — and Mr Pickering had remembered only at 2.30 p.m.
“I forgot completely about it* I had better not forget our twenty-fifth anniversary,” Mr Pickering said.
