Restriction on campers

Although the fact that only 30 camping parties were allowed in the Peel Forest Park at any one time was not always well received by the public, it was hoped that this interim measure could soon be lifted, the chairman of the Peel Forest Park Board (Mr F. C. McMullan) said in his annua] report. The restriction was imposed because the water supply was inadequate to cater for the planned maximum of 70 camping parties. However, until the board could expand and improve the supply, the maximum number of parties that could stay in the area 'would remain at 30.

An estimated 31,900 people, including campers, picnickers, club groups, tour groups and school groups, visited the park during the year. Although the park board had a policy of reducing the number of campers staying in the camp at any one time, the total number for the year actually increased. During the 1972-73 year, 953 camping parties paid $3724 in fees, but for the 1973-74 season, 1096 camping parties paid $3740 in fees.

Work to be undertaken during the next year included the investigation and planning of an improved water supply for the camping ground in the park, the report said.
