Deer shooting
Sir,—The accusations of cruelty by the S.P.C.A. involving helicopter-shooting is causing concern as to the integrity of the S.P.C.A How many S.P.C.A. members have shot from helicopters, or have accompanied aerial shooting crews while working? Where do they get their information of possible wounding of deer from helicopters? As is already widely known, some helicopter companies with Serial work licences are push-
ing for limited hunting seasons in the hope of forcing companies without aerial work licences out of business. These individuals are ruthless, using any means whatsoever for their own gain. I would suggest to the S.P.C.A. to stick to cruelty to domestic animals which aid or accompany man, and not become involved with introduced, noxious animals which cause erosion and flooding, thereby endangering man.— Yours etc., HELICOPTER CREWS WEST COAST. July 1, 1974.
