STEAMED UP
(N.Z.P.A. Staff Correspondent) CANBERRA.
A. R. Leslie’s touring AH Blacks enjoy getting steamed up. In fact, it is the AH Black’s most popular pastime — but is confined strictly to off the field.
At any opportunity they get, the All Blacks head directly for the nearest sauna or steam-room.
In Perth the club where they stayed had a sauna which was the most frequented area of the building, and in Dubbo they made full use of a sauna and steam-rooms at a club just around the comer from their motel. When they arrived in Canberra the first question to the local liaison officer was: “Where’s the nearest sauna?”
Twenty-three of the 25 touring players went to it after dinner. The team’s travelling masseur, Mr M. Mills, said that saunas are ideal for footballers. The only restriction is that the coach, Mr J. J. Stewart, advises them against having one the night before a game. Yesterday morning the New Zealand High Commissioner (Mr E. P. Chapman) gave a reception for the team, and tonight there is an Australian Government reception.
