Provisional entry age

The principle of lowering the age for provisional admittance to universities from 21 to 18 was supported in Christchurch last evening by the Minister of Education (Mr Amos).

Mr Amos said that the remit on the topic supported at the conference of the Labour Party last week embodied the need to keep provisional entrv to universities in line with the lowering of the age of majority.

“This would give a second chance to many young people who might miss out otherwise,” Mr Amos said. Mr Amos said that he doubted if there would be a sharp increase in university enrolments if the recommendation became Government

policy. Last year, of 9000 new enrolments, only 900 had been provisional admissions.
