TOC H HARRIERS WIN RELAY
The 40-year-old Toe H runner, L. Maxted, ran a fine last lap to give his club’s B team a win in the Anglican Harrier Club’s annual inter-club block relay in Burwood forest on Saturday. Forty-three teams (a record entry) competed.
Fine team running bj- University A gave it fastest time by 7sec from Olympic A. in spite of a fine last and fastest lap by the Olympic International crosscountry runner, J. Sheddan. Olympic B was third. The race (of five laps! was held over an undulating forest and sandy track course of about 3.3 miles in ideally cool weather. The Pioneer B team won the women’s relay. United B was second and the New Brighton Veterans’ team was third. The races were notable for commendably close handicapping. Only 30 to 40 yards separated most of the main place-getters.
