Canterbury golfers lose to Wellington

WELLINGTON. Wellington boosted its prospects of winning the I'reyberg Rose Bowl golf tournament at Whangarei later this week with a convincing, 11-5, win over Canterbury at Miramar yesterday.

The teams were level, 4-4. after Saturday’s rounds, but Wellington dominated yesterday s singles, dropping ■only one of the eight matches. The most impressive feature from Wellington’s point of view was the wins attained by each of the five Freyberg players. ODD MAN OUT The only loss was suffered by A. Proctor, a reserve for the tournament, who went down 4 and 3, to G. Saunders. R. Coombes. the Wellington No 1, destroyed all memories of his poor performance on Saturday, with a crushing, 4 and 3, win over D. N. Turner. Coombes took control from the outset, winning the first three holes, and after eight was five up.
