Carmita in race lead

' Leading yachts in the Tasiman single-handed yacht [race are not expected to (reach the finishing line at Mooloolaba, Queensland, until tonight or tomorrow.

Mooloolaba Yacht Club officials last night received their first indication of the position of the leading yachts in a radio call relayed through New Zealand.

The yacht club commodore, Mr J. H. McFarlane, }said that the report, giving The position of the yachts at 16 p.m. on Sunday had the 30foot Auckland yacht Carmita (P. More) 420 miles southeast by south of Mooloolaba. At that stage, the 38-foot trimaran Rebel II (A. Allan) was about 40 miles astern. Mr McFarlane said that no reports had been received from the eight other competitors.

He said that although weather conditions in the area were not known, it was unlikely that the leading yachts would reach the finishing line before late tonight or tomorrow mornling.
