Grants for research
Grants to the University of Canterbury totalling $60,270 were announced yesterday by the Vice-Chancellor (Professor N. C. Phillips). Dr R. B. Keey, reader in chemical engineering, has been granted $40,000 from the New Zealand Dairy Institute for dry spray I research. ; A grant of $lB,OOO has been made by the New Zea- [ land Meteorological Service to the department of physics to buy data processing equipment. The equipment will be principally used for research in rocket soundings of the upper atmosphere. Other grants announced were as follow’s: $lOOO from the Forest Research Institute to Dr A. G. D. Whyte, senior lecturer in forestry, to continue his study of tree growth rings; $llOO from the Building Research Association of New Zealand to study the effects of temperature on the strength of the junctions of reinforced concrete slabs; a rise from $l5 to $2O in the I Economic Society of Australia and New Zealand prize; and $l5O from 1.8. M. NewZealand. Ltd. towards the overseas study visit of Mr B. D. .Jamieson, senior lecturer in psychology.
