Army nanip change For 11 years 1 Battalion Deput at Burnham Military l amp has trained officers anil soldiers of New Zealand’s infantry battalions overseas. As from tomorrow the unit will be known as the 2nd/lst; Battalion, Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment. The re-! organisation will not mean significant changes in rank, structure or manning, rhe! depot was established in 19631 when the Ist and 2nd Battalions were amalgamated to become 1 Royal New Zealand; Infantry Reg’ment. Its com- I mon origins with 1 R.N Z.I.R. make it appropriate to call it the 2nd/lst Battalion. Spirits in glasses The Canterbury branch of the Hotel Association has asked hotels not to serve spirits in jugs This was, announced by the branch’sexecutive officer (Mr R. W. R.[ Broom), who said the; national association was concerned about the practice of selling jugs of spirits. Power line The Paparua County Rural Districts Council decided [ yesterday to meet the Electricity Department to see if it can get the route of a new extra-high voltage line changed. The chairman (Cr A. Y. Shuker) said he believed that, with minor adjustments, the cables could go over Government land and quarry zones, instead of private property. The proposed line will run north from the Islington subI station. Queen's Colour The Royal New Zealand Air Force base at Wigram will take charge of the Queen’s Colour for the coming year at a ceremony at I the base on May 31. The) occasion will be the parade to mark the birthday of Queen Elizabeth. Wigram will receive the colour from) ■a colour party from Ohakea, where it has been held for) the last 12 months. The ceremony and parade will be open to the public, an Air Force spokesman said yesterday.
520.000 for Mclntyres
A record $20,000 worth of paintings was sold from the Peter Mclntyre exhibition at the McGregor Wright Gallery within half an hour of the opening yesterday morning. Twenty-three of the 28 paintings were sold to make the $20,000. The highest price paid was $lBOO for “The Pa at Kakahi,” a panoramic view. —(P.A.)
