Basketbail qualifier
Athletic (Nelson) is the fourth team to qualify for the final of the Old Crow New Zealand men’s basketball club championship in Christchurch from May 31 to June 3.
Athletic defeated University (Wellington), 94-91, in the final of the zone six qualifying tournament in Nelson at the week-end. This was a minor surprise considering that University had previously qualified in the Hastings tournament and Athletic had failed in the recent South Island club championship in Christchurch. Marist (Wellington), the winner of the South Island title, was third. It was beaten by Athletic, 66-61, and by University (Wellington), 73-70. The last chance for Marist to qualify will be in the zone four tournament in) New Plymouth from Mav 9 to 12. The other two teams which have already qualified are, Coca-Cola and Mazda (both Auckland).
