Rules on multiple hiring of taxis
Regulations governing the multiple hiring of taxis did not permit drivers to accept a multiple hire when they were answering a telephoned order, the Ministry of Transport senior investigating officer in Christchurch (Mr N. I). Henderson) said yesterday.
Commenting on recent; correspondence in “The I Press” on multiple hiring,; ■MF Henderson said that the | Transport Licensing Regulations set the rules, and also provided for discounts. Before a second hire couldbe accepted, for example,! the first hirer had to be' (asked for his agreement, the] prospective second hirer! .having been “clearly visible”, jto him. Mr Henderson said. ; There must be no "sub-! istantia! departure” from the! original hirer’s route, and' each hirer must be charged! only for the shortest route, ■between the pick-up point) and his destination. A multiple hire could not; involve more than two.; which meant only*

There was a set scale of! 1 discounts for multiple hires,! IMr Henderson said. !
