Oddballs and Guinness
f.V.Z. Press Assn—Copyright? LOS ANGELES, April 29. A pound of hard Cheddar. Seven kosher dills. Twenty doughnuts. A pound of grapes. Three hundred goldfish.
These were all downed, not easily, but in record time, by glory seekers at the “Oddball Olympics.”
The week-end event in Los Angeles must have been a record in itself for bizarre talents in one place. Cigar crammers, toiletpaper stackers, rolling-pin hurlers. and one-leg standees congregated in a Los Angeles shopping centre for a collective assault on the Guinness Book of Records. AH of the contestants were from southern California.
As the sun set on Sunday's activities, the rock-ing-chair marathoners had faded, but a ping-pong
contestant had passed his fiftieth hour, and the Monopoly game begun last Thursday was still going. It was primarily a shopping centre promotion, but Guinness officials were in attendance as:
Kevin Farrell and Corey Fletcher each stood on one leg for seven hours.
Scott Zuckman threw a rolling pin 175 feet.
Rick Sackett stuffed 52 cigars in his mouth, and smoked them for 30 seconds. His triumph, however, was marred by a rebellious stomach immediately afterward. “Its always horrible with these,’’ said the man from Guinness.
John Parker, aged 24, swallowed 300 goldfish. Roger Guy English, holder of a girl-kissing record (3000 kisses in eight hours) began what he vowed would be 75 hours of singing.
