Broken ribs, cuts, bruises, and a stroke
Five persons were taken from the Aramoana to hospital by ambulance when the ferry which was carrying 210 passengers, berthed at Lyttelton 24 hours after she was due to arrive at Wellington.
The injuries came from slips and falls. Mrs Elaine Little, of 33 Caens Road, Panmure, Auckland, suffered a rib and spleen injury when she slipped on water that came through a leaky window. She was lifted by crane on a stretcher to an ambulance on the wharf. Her condition in Christchurch Hospital last evening was fairly satisfactory.
Rib injuries were also suffered by Henry Phillips, a storekeeper on the vessel, of lON Hamilton Road, Haitaitai, Wellington. Mr William Hopkins, of 22 Matfeys Road, Mount Pleasant, suffered nose and back injuries in a fall. Mrs Gwen Morrison, of lake Road, R.D. I, Putaruru, Waikato, suffered a cut to the head when she fell back and hit a door frame.
Another patient taken off the vessel by crane was Mrs Annie Stricken, of St Arnaud, Nelson, who suffered a stroke during the night. She was admitted to Princess Margaret Hospital.
