BLENHEIM. April 28.
Two hundred Christchurch schoolchildren were among those who missed a trip to Wellington in the Cook Strait ferries this week-end. They were bound for a school music festival, but with no ferries, yesterday, they went back home last night.
In spite of a sign at the ferry terminal advising that ferry sailings are cancelled, a number of hopefuls today queued in the car waiting lanes.
Passengers booked on the ferries for yesterday and today have either returned to their homes or have decided to wait in Picton and Blenheim.
There is no shortage of accommodation in Picton, and the ferry terminal building is still being closed overnight.
