(N.Z. Press Association)
WELLINGTON.
New Zealand was prepared to contribute 53.5 m to an international fertiliser fund over the next two years, the Associate Minister of Foreign Affairs (Mr Walding) said in a statement.
“This decision was made after the tabling at the United Nations special session in New York on Monday of a joint proposal by New Zealand and Sri Lanka for the immediate establishment of a fertiliser fund,” he said. “The proposal provides for contributions of cash or fertiliser by any country’ and for the provision of fertiliser to developing countries on a grant or subsidised basis.” He emphasised that the develooing countries were dependent on nitrogenous fertilisers, which were derived from petroleum.
