SMITHFIELD MARKET
Beef continues to fall
Trade was heavy on the Smithfield market last week but supplies met demand and prices remained basically unchanged, the Meat Board reports.
New Zealand lamb quotations were reduced slightly, but most of the pitchings cleared at the higher range of prices, while the lower range of prices was quoted only to clear supplies at the! end of the day. Beef continues to sell at a comparatively low price, and consequently lamb sales at retail remain at a lower level that is considered normal.
A limited offering of New Zealand lamb cuts sold steadily at the following prices: Legs ■ . 40.0-41.0 —0.50 Long Loins .. 39.5-40.5 n.e. Short Fores .. 25.0-26.0 n.e. Very limited amounts of New Zealand boneless beef cleared readily at reduced
