Long cuts in heating
Cold weather led to long cuts in electric water-heating in the Christchurch area during the week-end. The Municipal Electricity Department imposed two cuts, from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The Heathcote County Council had an eight-hour cut on Saturday and a 14hour cut yesterday. In Kaiapoi, there was a 14-hour cut yesterday, and the Lyttelton Borough Council imposed a 12-hour cut. The Central Canterbury Electric Power Board had two seven-hour cuts, and the Riccarton Borough Council two 10-hour cuts.
All authorities said that tn spite of the cuts they would be well above their allocations. This meant there would be more cuts.
