New N.C.C. secretary

The Rev. A. H. McLeod, minister of the Oxford Terrace Baptist Church. Christchurch, has been appointed general secretary’ of th* National Council of Churches in New Zealand from July 1.

He will succeed the Rev. D M. Taylor, also of Christchurch. Mr MacLeod has been minister of the Oxford Terrace Church since 1962. Bom in Edinburgh tn 1926. he came to New Zealand in 1940 and attended Wellington College. At the end of the war. he returned to Scotland. He worked with the Alliance Insurance Company in Wellington and tn Edinburgh, passing four units towards an accountancy degree. He obtained the degrees of MA 0951). Tn 1966 Mr MacLeod was ' I elected president of the Canterbury and Westland Bap- , list Association and in 1969 was president of the Baptist Union of New Zealand. Since . 1972 he has been chairman , f ’he Baptist Union Council. I Mr MacLeod has been inivolved in the ecumenical

movement since 1946 when he was a member of the Edinburgh Ecumenical Youth Committee. He was president of the National Council of Churches from 1971 to 1973. He has travelled extensively in Australia, Europe. America and Asia. He represented the council at the annual general meeting of the Australian Council of Churches in Melbourne in 1969; and at the Assembly of the Cook Islands Christian Church in Rarotonga in 1971 In 1970 he visited the headquarters of the World Council of Churches in Geneva. He has also visited the headquarters of the national councils of churches in Djakarta. New York and Fiji, as well as the offices of the Church Federation of Greater Chicago.

He represented New Zealand Baptists at the Congress of the Baotist WorM Alliance it London in 1955 and at Tokvo in 1970. Mr MacLeod is the author of two books and six booklets and has been a regular (writer for Sundav School publications and magazines m Australia and New Zealand.
