Junior golf competition

The Canterbury Junior Golfing Society, which has a proud record of achievement in furthering golf in the province, has a very strong field for its stroke competition at Coringa tomorrow.

There are 80 entries, from players of 18 to 25 years, and among them are two members of this year’s Freyberg Rosebowl team, P. Harstone and J. Whitaker, as well as one of ther reserves, S. S. Robinson, who is president of the society. Other notable players in the field are Mrs S. Whitaker and Miss S. Clephane.

Later in the season, teams from the society will play matches against’ Wellington and Mid-South Canterbury, before the annual interisland match.

Marathon.— Two New Zealand runners who competed in the Christchurch Commonwealth Games are In the big field for the tenth Fletcher marathon at Rotorua today. They are K Ryan, who ran in the 5090 and 10.000 metres, and .1 Robinson who finished tenth in the Games marathon.
