(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 19. The days of eightcylinder Government cars appear to be numbered. The Postmaster-General (Mr Douglas) under whose portfolio is included the Public Service garage fleet of ministerial vehicles, said in Auckland tonight that smaller cars were bought in the last financial year to replace the familiar black V 8 vehicles.
Mr Douglas said a permanent move was being made to smaller (six cylinder) cars for the ministerial fleet. “All of the cars purchased last year were smaller than the ones they replaced,” he said. “There are still big black cars in the fleet, but they are gradually being phased out.”
