Centennial celebration

(From Our Oicn Reporter) NELSON, April 19 The Nelson City Council is today celebrating a centenary of local government in the city — a little more than 99 years after the first city council was hounded out of office by irate citizens.

Inside the city’s latest amenity — the big Trafalgar Centre — a bullock and other animals were barbecued whole tonight and served to guests. The barbecue was to have been outdoors at three big barbecue pits being erected outside the centre — the oniv ones of their size in i the'country. Heavy rain over, Easter, prevented completion of the pits.
