Retirement of signalman

Mr D. S. Chapman, a Lyttelton Harbour Board signalman, who will retire on February 24, was met by the board at its meeting yesterday, and received a cheque from the chairman (Mr J. Brand).

Mr Chapman, who has been with the board for 13 years, previously had 23 years service with the Royal Navy and the Royal New Zealand Navy. During the Second World War he was a signalman on the Monowai, made the Arctic convoy run, and was on H.M.N.Z.S. Achilles, as well as other warships.
