TAYLER LEAVES Running on boards

(N.Z. Press Association) BLENHEIM. The Commonwealth Games 10,000 metres gold medallist, R. Tayler, of Blenheim, will face an entirely new experience during his two-week visit to America. Tayler, who leaves Auckland today with J. Walker, has never raced on boards oil indoor circuits. All his North American appearances — in Los Angeles, Toronto, San Diego, and New York—will be on the tighter indoor tracks. “It will be a new experience for me. I don’t know whether I’ll fly to pieces or whether I’ll be all right,” he said. “The body is pretty tired,” he said, “but there shouldn’t be too much pressure on boards. If I was racing on grass tracks, I wouldn’t go.” Tayler said his leg injury was all right. “I gave it a good hard work-out last night,” he said. At a welcome-home ceremony in Blenheim on Tuesday night, Tayler attributed his 10,000 metres win to being “lucky enough to be the best man on the day,” and asked people not to expect too much from him.

Squash.—G. Hunt (Australia) and Mohammed Yasin (Pakistan) have qualified to meet in the final of the British open squash championship in Sheffield. In the semi-finals, Yasin beat a fellow Pakistani, Oatar Zaman, 5-9, 9-7, 10-9, 9-7, and Hunt beat Gogi Alauddln, the third Pakistani in the semi-finals 9-4, 9-1. e-3
