Early favourite in fours loses
(A.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. Competition in the cut-off in post-section play at the national women's bowling fours championships in Wellington intensified yesterday.
Sixty-two fours made postsection play, to be held on the one-life system today. Thirteen fours came through with a clean scorecard —six wins in six matches —and 20 fours had five wins. Twenty-nine teams had the four wins required to qualify. The third dav of the national fours had no surprises, though Mrs M. Gardner’s Berhamoore four lost its second match. Mrs Gardner was an early favourite for the title. She has been prominent in Wellington ■ centre championships, and has won a national singles title. Three fours did well to make the qualifying round after losing the first two of their six games. The fours were skippered by Mesdames M. Bloom iMount Victoria). E. Harris iTaitai and B.
