Jealous Lover a top Riccarton prospect

Jealous Lover and Entourage are two of the brightest winning prospects on the card for the second day of the Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting at Riccarton today.

Jealous Lover, a Wanganui two-year-old, is in undistinguished company in the Johnnie Walker Handicap and top weight of 61kg should not stop him from completing a double at the meeting.

W. D. Skelton will he hack at Riccarton to ride him—a combination which won at cramped odds in the Canterbury Challenge Stakes last Saturday. Entourage, another success-1 ful favourite on the first day! of the meeting, will be in | stronger company in the, Crown Crystal Handicap today, but should run out 1600 ! metres better than anything; else in the race. The Crown Crystal Handicap is a race for apprentice riders, and Entourage will be ridden today by M, Mein, whose father, G. W. Mein, won on the three-year-old last Saturday. Entourage won over 1400 metres on Saturday in I. 4-5, three-fifths of a second faster than New York!' took to win the Edinburgh! Handicap later in the day. i New York will oppose! Entourage today, but might) find the Riccarton three-year-! old more than she can man-i age. Town Major, from Wingatui, and Grey Way, from Washdyke are a likely pair for the T.A.B. double, which will be on the New Zealand! Breweries and Gordon’s Gin! Handicaps. Town Major did not cap-! ture his top form on hisj Ellerslie campaign in Dec-; ember, but will command J; respect on his best South i Island performances which,! this season, have included! wins in the Ashburton Cupi and the Dunedin Jockey Clubl Handicap.
