Truck nearly in bed

(Neto Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. Ten-year-old Philip Robarts woke up with a jolt on Monday and found the cab of a large truck towering over his bed.

The truck had been left parked outside flats in Blockhouse Bay Road. About 10 p.m. it rolled 30 yards downhill and crashed into Philip’s bedroom wall. The wall was pushed in, and Philip’s bed was pushed 3ft across the room. Glass was scattered across the floor, and the bed partly collapsed, but Philip was not hurt. 1 “I was really frightened, [and just pulled the blankets over my head until Dad came and took me outside,” he said afterwards. Philip’s father, Mr L. S. Robarts, was watching television when he heard what he thought was an explosion at the other end of the house. “It sounded as if someone had put a bomb through the window,” he said. “There was a terrible bang, and the whole house shook, but I didn’t realise what it was until I heard all the glass shattering. “My first worry was for Philip, because the sound came from his bedroom. I rushed in and found him hid-

ing under the blankets. I carried him outside. He was pretty shocked at first, but he soon calmed down.”
