WORLD SKI-ING French girl wins slalom
Miss F. Serrat, of France, won the women’s giant slalom at the world alpine skiing championships in St i Moritz, Switzerland, according to preliminary results from N.Z.P.A.-Reuter. Miss T. Treichl (West Ger-; many) was second, and Miss' J. Rouvier (France) was third, according to the provisional' results. Meanwhile, Miss J. Wells, the 16-year-old member of the New Zealand ski-ing team, has had to withdraw from the women’s world championship. She injured a knee before Christmas and it has not responded to treat-; iment, i C. Womersley, of New; Zealand, had a morale-boost-ling fifth place in a World iCup event last week. I The placing was Womerslev’s best on the World Cup circuit, and established him in world class. His placing was in the combined result after the running of a slalom and downhill at Wengen in Switzerland.
