Four sharks attack man and son
i.Ncic Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, February 4. Four sharks attacked a man and his 12-year-old son while they were diving off the Poor Knights Islands on Sunday.
Mr Barry Sanford and, his son, Glen, were on a: i trip organised by the (Aqua Divers Club, and; I were diving with snor-! kels. , Mr Sanford said that they,
peared, and the two divers, I found themselves being attacked from all sides. i Mr Sanford then called to: I other divers- aboard their 'boat, and they were hauled to safety. Mr Sanford said that he. i had been attacked by aggres-i |sive sharks once before, and I was not really worried at' any time. His son also re- 1 mained cairn. Mr Sanford, who is presi-; dent of the Aqua Divers; Club, said that some divers' iin New Zealand were not ! particularly shark conscious and did not take seriously I the possibility of a shark at-1 tack in local waters. An attack by aggressive i sharks was always likely, especially when spearfishing. ; If a diver was threatened' by a shark, Mr Sanford said, he should remain calm and fend it off with anything 'available, even a camera. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
