Motion on Games
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Feb. 4. The Leader of the Opposition (Mr Marshall) today called on Parliament to thank members of the Royal Family for visiting New Zealand for the Commonwealth Games and the Royal tour. In the year’s first notice of motion in Parliament, he also called for the House to congratulate the city of Christchurch, the organising committee, the N.Z.8.C., the competitors, and all supporters on the outstanding success of the Games, and on the publicity and good will accorded New Zealand as a result. Mr Marshall’s notice expressed “the hope that the absence of any political or racial considerations for participation in the Games will be accepted by the Government as setting the pattern for future policy in New Zealand.”
