i.V.Z Press Association • PALMERSTON NORTH About 3000 people watched the New Zealand and Canadian Commonwealth Games swimming teams at a meeting in Palmer ston North last evening. The Canadian, Miss P Stenhouse, and the New Zealander. Miss .1. Paikhouse, each won two races. Miss Stenhouso won tlie women's 100 metre butterfl' in Imin lOsec, and the 200 in dividual medley in a time of 2min 4O.9sec. Miss Parkhouse won the open 400 metres freestyle, in which she won a bronze medal at the Games. Her time was 4min 44 2 [sec. about 19sec slower than her Games performance. M. Treffers. the New Zealand gold medallist in the mens individual medley, swam a close race in the mens open 400 metres freestyle. Both he and [B. Naylor, of New Zealand, recorded 4min 29.35ec. However, Treffers was given first place P. Hughes, the Canadian spe t cialist backstroke swimmer, also took two events. He won the [men’s 100 metres backstroke ahead of the national champion. P. Thorogood Hughes ewon In Imin 6.7 sec. He also won the men's 400 metres medley, easilv beating A. Fogel (New Zealand' and Q. Fogg (Manawatut in 2min 20.3 sec.
