School hostel opened
Residential accommodation for up to 50 Form 111 to Form VII pupils will be provided in a co-educational hostel in Cranmer Square which was opened by Middleton Grange Schoo] yesterday. It was formerly Bishop Julius Hostel. It is 10 years since the school opened in Acacia Avenue, Riccarton, with a roll of 64. The school now has more than 570 pupils, 20 of whom will be the first residents in the hostel. The hostel, which will now be known as “The Grange,” was dedicated by Canon H. F. Thomson, a member of the school’s board of governors. The rector of the school (Mr E. A. Dunlop) said that the new amenity would enable it to run an extra third form this year, and would speed up the school’s plans to provide extra secondary-school facilities.
