THE GAMES IN COLOUR

The colour-picture record of the Commonwealth Games was on sale last evening. Mr R. S. Scott, chairman of the Games Organising Committee, received the first copy from the acting manager of “The Press” (Mr R. A. Barker) yesterday afternoon, less tha.n 20 hours after photographers of “The Press” took' pictures of the closing ceremony. Mr Scott (shown in the picture above receiving his “Games Review”) said that the book was “fantastic.”

“This publication is of international class and has captured the spirit of the 1974 Games,” he said. The book, which is published by “The Press,” a,nd printed by Bascands, Ltd, is the result of many months of planning and, since the completion of the Games, the product of 24-hour shift work by the printers. By 7 a.m. today the whole edition of the book will be ready for distribution. Hundreds of copies were snapped up at the Games

Village last evening. Postal distribution will begin this morning, and the book will be sold from the offices of “The Press” and from many dairies and booksellers. Bound copies of the book, which contains a full account of the Games from the opening ceremony to closing ceremony, will be sent to the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh before they leave New Zealand. Other members of the Royal Family will also be sent copies. More than 130 colour pictures of the Games have

been printed. The text reports on each day of the Games, and a list of all medal winners is included. The pictures were edited by Mr L. R. Bloxham, illustrations editor of “The Press.” The photographs were taken by Mr N. G. Marriner, chief photographer of “The Press,” and Mr D. W. Woods, a staff photographer. Film processing was by Mannering and Associates, Ltd, and the type was set by Express Typesetting Sendee, Ltd.
