SOCCER TOUR
Under 16 tourists Five Christchurch soccer players have been named in the national under-16 squad to tour Australia in May. They are Philip Ayers, Peter ’ Bennie, Rex Dillon, Michael Fulham, and Richard Mulligan. South Canterbury is repre- j sented by Nick Reid. The squad of 16 was announced in New Plymouth! by the chairman of the' Junior Football Association (Mr R. H. Kavanagh). The players will be coached by the national 'coach (Mr Barrie Truman) assisted iby Mr R. Carter, who coached Rangers, the southern league champions last season, and who was the former Canterbury coach. Mr Carter will also be assistant manager to Mr B. L. Swarbrick (Wellington), Other squad members are: Graeme Mitchell (Whangarei) Keith Brodie (Wellington), Alan Taylor (Wellington), Clive Webber (Auckland), Colin Gratwick (Franklin), Duncan Cole (Auckland), Neil Graham (Manawatu), Robert ; McCardle (Manawatu), Eddie; Phelan (Hutt Valley), Garry i Stephenson (Hutt Valley).
Stock cars.—New Zealand beat the touring English stock car team, 45-30. at the Te Marua track, Wellington, on Saturday night.
