Duleep Mendis hit 74 to rescue the Sri Lanka Cricket Board President’s XI from a collapse on the second day of their three-day match against the touring Indian team at Kandy. At the close, India had made 76 for one in their second innings. Scores: Indians 225 (A. Mankad 105; S. Geganathan 4/30) and 76/1 (E. Gavaskar 37 not out, P. Sharma 32 not out), President’s XI 193/8 declared (D. Mendis 74; P. Salgaonkar 3/46. K. Gavri 2/32, P. Shivlkar 2/47).
