Sit-in strike
The police are guarding a potash mine in Pamplona, an industrial city just south of the French border, where 300 workers are in the third day of a sit-in strike in the main shaft, protesting against the threatened dismissal of two shop stewards. The pair are said by the mining company, Potasas de Navarra, to have been active in a recent strike by the mine’s 1800 workers to highlight fears of redundancies in another Pamplona firm. Strikes are illegal in Spain.—Pamplona, Feb. 3.
