Tasman motor race in doubt
The Sydney round in the Stuyvesant series of Tasman championship motor races will be held on Sunday as planned, but the Australian floods have put f he Surfers’ Paradise meeting the following Sunday in doubt.
The Sydney track, Oran, Park, was to t "e been ex-[ tended for Sunday s race, but, the weather has prevented! the work from being com-1 pleted. However, the race will! still be held. Earlier this week the Surfers’ Paradise track was reported to be under 9ft of| water, and it was thought un-i
ilikelv it would be fit for racking by February 10. I The race could be cancelled. but it might also be I postponed until March 3, 1 after what was to have been I the final race of the series, at j Adelaide. ■ Cancellation of the race 'could hurt the championship I chances of the New Zealand (driver who has won the Tasiman title the last three successive years—G. Mcßae. ' Although Mcßae was I clearly fastest in the four New Zealand races already held, he finished only in one, and consequently has only six points in the championship to the 18 of the leader, P. Gethin, of England. Mcßae, now eighth in the standings, needs all the points he can get if he is to move to the front of the rankings —and without races, he cannot gain points. —
