Disabled tanker
. The United States Navy (oil tanker, Maumee, will be towed to Lyttelton for repairs after damaging its rudder in the ice channel just |o~ Hut Point in McMurdo | Sound early yesterday. The mishap occurred at 1.30 a.m. as the Maumee, taking 5Jm gallons of fuel for the Navy’s support operation was leaving Winter Quarters Bay after unloading i its cargo.
; The United States Coast j Guard ice-breaker, Staten (Island, will tow the Maumee Ito Lyttelton. It will be the (first time the giant oil tanker will have visited the port.
