No meeting on rubbish
Reports that a special meeting of the Heathcote County Council had been arranged to discuss the upset over uncollected rubbish at Cashmere on January 14 were denied on Thursday. The deputy-chairman (Cr J. M. McKenzie), who was said to have called the meeting by requisition for next Wednesday evening, denied the story. “I did nothing of the sort, and in any case, I will be in Australia next week,” he said.
The chairman (Mr J. Somers) said that a special meeting had not been arranged. “The problem no longer exists,” he said. “The collection might be discussed at a meeting tonight of the council’s town planning committee, but there will be no special council meeting.”
